The happy cast of 'AWAY'
And some of them were castaways, stranded at Laguna Hall due to the rising flood waters. You see folks, we at Valley Artists believe that the show must go on!
I was geographically close, across the creek from the hall, but sooo far away. I was lucky enough to see the dress rehearsal. And then the rain came down.
However, from all reports of those that saw the play, it was fantastic. Special mention must go to newcomer Lincoln Free, with a large amount of dialogue. He took the stage in his stride; also newcomers Amy Johnson and Rachelle Stoehr as fairies, hotel guests & schoolies; Multiple roles for another newcomer to the stage Stacey Muras as Miss La Trobe, Leonie, Titania & a hotel guest.
Micaela Elphick's character was all at sea in her fantastic protrayal of Coral. Anna Ringma who has performed several times for VA was brilliant as Meg. Robyn Blackwell has worked backstage for VA and had a small role in last year's sponsors dinner. Her fantastic portrayal of Vic had a warmth to lift the spirits. Then there were the 'old hands' - Alan Glover, Karen Butler-Hues, Mal Goudie, Ross Fletcher & Tim Williams.
Congratulations to all those involved.
WORKSHOP - Introduction to Directing
This is your chance to learn what it takes to become a theatre director.
Bob Philippe (NIDA) is running a two day workshop on 26th & 27th July, 2008. This workshop is limited to just twelve people. The graduates of this workshop can direct or be assistant directors for our end of year show, which will be short one act plays to be performed in November, with overall director Alan Glover. Book early and don't miss out on this interesting learning curve.

Valley Artists is excited to announce the company's end of year production:
"ECLECTICA"
A confection of new theatre. Directed by Alan Glover This show will provide three great opportunities. First, for local playwrights to see their work staged. Second, for new local directors to put theory into practice (these new directors will have attended Bob Philippe's 'Introduction to Directing' course, July 26-27). Third, for theatre-goers to enjoy an evening of original thespian art.
Calling back to the show that formed Valley Artists, "Come To Pieces," (1998), and "Come To Bits," (2000), "ECLECTICA" will contain comedy and drama in long and short form, providing entertainment for all tastes. When asked what we should expect, Alan said, "Topical themes, thought-provoking content, and some very silly moments."
Production date will be November/December. Loud pronouncements will be made as soon as this is confirmed.
Those interested in taking part in "ECLECTICA" (writers, actors, & stage crew) are encouraged to contact Alan on 4998 1656. Alan will require scripts by August.
