Valley Artists present their production of AWAY, an iconic story of three families holidaying by the sea and a multi-award winning Australian play, with Bob Philippe directing a superb cast of local talent.

Audiences can once again be inspired by Michael Gow's story of three different families on vacation in Christmas 1967.

This modern Australian holiday tale involves more than tanning, cricket and bare bodies on the sand. Roy and Coral, who are AWAY on a luxury beach holiday, are becoming increasingly close to breaking up after losing their son in the Vietnam War. Tom is fatally ill but his parents, Harry and Vic, haven't told him that he is going to die. They are determined to have a good time, knowing that it could be their last together as a family. Meg is the same age as Tom. They go to school together and both like each other. Meg's parents, Gwen and Jim are going AWAY on holiday so the rather uptight Gwen can have a break.

By going AWAY each family is hoping to resolve their issues but, in this play, nothing can be resolved until the forces of nature take over, tearing the hopes, dreams and fears of the characters apart and washing them up, coincidently, on to the same beach.

AWAY is being performed at Laguna Hall from the 18th to 26th April. This is a superbly written and popular play that captures the Australian spirit, makes us laugh at ourselves and tugs at our hearts.
