Don't forget you can view all previous Valley Artists show posters at the Wollombi Cultural Centre. John Harrison is responsible for framing many of these and we thank him for his expertise and ongoing sponsorship of the company. We're very proud of our productions, and the framed posters are lasting mementoes to remind and encourage us. Give him a call if you need any framing done (4998 1526). Thanks John.
The first production for 2008 will open Friday 11 April. It is the much-loved Australian play by Michael Gow, 'AWAY', to be directed by Bob Philippe. (Come to Bits, The Removalists, Hotel Sorrento,Aladdin, Honour,The Importance of Being Earnest and Summer of the Seventeenth Doll.)
At times funny and yet painfully truthful, 'AWAY' exposes the comedy and tragedy of three Australian families thrown together by a storm during the summer holidays of 1967/68.This superbly written play captures the Australian spirit, makes us laugh at ourselves and tugs at our hearts.
Traditionally the play has a cast of 7 actors who double up on a number of roles.Valley Artists, however, can offer the opportunity to 12 actors to play the characters who range in age from 18 to 55 years.
The characters include:
- Tom - A graduating high school boy and Rick - A young newly wed man. (These two roles are played by the same actor)
- Meg - A Year 11 schoolgirl and friend to Tom.
- Roy and Coral - School headmaster and grieving wife.
- Vic and Harry - Tom's English immigrant parents.
- Gwen and Jim - Meg's parents.
- Leonie - A young woman hotel guest.
- Miss Latrobe -A schoolteacher.
- An MC, Hotel Guests and four disgruntled Campers.
